Gonzalo Antonio Amar

Gonzalo Antonio Amar, 83, of South Haven, died peacefully at home on Saturday, December 20, 2008. He was born January 28, 1925 to Jose and Maria (Salazar) Amar in Palestina, Colombia, South America. Gonzalo married Margaret Fagerlund on December 30, 1950 in South Haven, MI. Gonzalo owned and operated the Amar Blueberry Plantation and Mapa-Mundi International Inc. which was an export-import management business. Gonzalo enjoyed cooking and was an avid reader. Gonzalo was always up to date on international news and current events. For years, he would go to the elementary schools and talk to children about Colombia. Every summer, he took pride in growing a vegetable garden. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Beatriz Amar de Jozame.

Gonzalo is survived by his wife Margaret Amar, four daughters – Marta Amar of South Haven, MI., Claudia (Stephen Toneycliffe) Amar of South Haven, MI., Katia Amar (Joe Dubas) of South Haven, MI.,Mony (Scott Newton) Amar-Newton of South Haven, MI., six grandchildren-Josef Nelson, Lyndsay Ruell, Cory(Hillary) Ruell, Jacob Newton, Emma Toneycliffe, Kendra Newton, two sisters- Yvette Amar deLopez, Zoraya Amar de Rivas, and two brothers – Yamil Amar and Farid Amar.
