Diane Smith

Diane Smith, 51, of Covert died Saturday, November 29 at home.

She was born May 20, 1957 in Faunsdale, Alabama to Frank Lee and Viola (Williams) Johnson. Diane moved to Covert, Michigan in 1974. She was united in holy matrimony to Chester Smith on July 6, 1981. She was a faithful member at Lily of the Valley Church for 34 years and served in many capacities: kitchen coordinator, bereavement committee, pastor’s aide committee, decorating committee, sick committee and choir member. Diane also served as an armor bearer to Mother Vergie Berry. For years, Diane made all the floral arrangements for the church. Most of all Diane was saved, sanctified and filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Diane worked as a sander for Overton in South Haven for 15 years retiring for medical reasons in 1984.

She is preceded in death by her mother – Violo Johnson who died in 2006.

She is survived by her husband – Chester Smith of Covert, Michigan. One son – Chavis (Shirley) Bowers of Morehead City, North Carolina. Four daughters – Tammy (Irving) Pool of North Carolina, Breanne Bowers of Indianapolis, Indiana, Giovannah Walker of Mobile, Alabama and Mylese Smith of Benton Harbor, Michigan. 10 grandchildren. Father – Frank Lee Johnson of Selma, Alabama. 10 brothers and sisters – David, Robert, Rosevelt, Frank Johnson Jr., Jimmie Lee, Nelson, Carloyn, Irene Boone, Elouise, and Angela Johnson.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 3 from 7 – 8 P.M. at the Lily of the Valley Church in Covert. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 P.M. at the church with Pastor Darryl Williams officiating.
