Vincent Moses Curtis's Obituary

Vincent Moses Curtis Brown, 89, of Covert, departed this life on Friday, September 12 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born February 4, 1919 in Kingston, Jamaica to Gershan and Laurleen Curtis. Vincent moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan in the late 1940’s. He was united in marriage to the former Frieda Hodges. To this union five children were born. Vincent, Frieda and their children moved to Covert, Michigan in 1962. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother grandfather, and great grandfather. In 1960 Vincent retired from Whirlpool, where he had worked 30 years in the maintenance department as a welder. He was also a blueberry farmer for 45 years and a member of the VanBuren Civic Organization.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father – Gershan and Laurleen Curtis. A son – Fredrick, two brothers – Vincent and Sonny, and a grandson – Robert Jr.

He leaves to mourn, his loving wife of 58 years – Frieda. 4 children – Eloise, Charles, Gwendolyn and Lorraine. A brother – Izett. 17 grand and great grandchildren. A special niece – Dawn, and a host of relatives and friends.

Wake will be Saturday, September 20 from 11:30 – 12 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin Saturday at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Sgt. Al Mingo officiating. Burial will take place to Fish Cemetery in Covert Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Kidney Foundation or the VanBuren Civic Organization in Covert, Michigan.
