William (Bill)'s Obituary

William (Bill) Parker of Covert, Michigan passed from life September 2, 2008 at Watervliet Community Hospital, Watervliet, Michigan.

William (Bill) was born September 8, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Frederick L. and Bernice C. (Kennedy) Parker. Bill was a graduate of Englewood high school and attended Chicago Teachers College for 3 years before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of Captain. He was a Korean Conflict veteran and served his country for 14 years. Bill was also a 13 year veteran of the Chicago Police Dept. and a five (5) year veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve in South Haven. He later became a supervisor for National Motor Casting, in South Haven, and a financial planner for both the Knights of Columbus (K of C) and New York Life Insurance companies. His favorite “thing to do” was helping others and volunteering for the “Tootsie Roll Drive” for special children. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hartford for the past two years and had been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet since 1969, where he was a lay minister and lector.

Bill was a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4055, St. Joseph Church Watervliet, Michigan (since1970); became a 4th degree Knight, past Navigator, and District Deputy. He was a member of the Watervliet VFW.

William is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers – Frederick Parker, Kenndey Parker, Allen Parker and one sister – Wilda Powell.

He leaves to mourn, his childhood sweetheart and wife June, of Covert, MI, one son Jean-Michael Parker of Chicago, IL, four grandchildren – Daniel Parker, Ruth Parker, Tabitha Parker and Jamil Clayton. Two great-grandchildren – Brandon Parker and Angel Harper, one sister – Patricia Giles of Atlanta, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 16th, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet, Michigan with Rev. Father Donald Weiber and Rev. Father Greene officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be donated to – Boysville, 8759 Clinton-Macon Road, Clinton Michigan 49236.
