Helen's Obituary
Helen Elizabeth DeVries, 91, of South Haven died Saturday, July 12 at River Ridge Retirement Village in South Haven.
She was born April 9, 1917 in Gig Harbor, Washington to Adam and Carrie (Brown) Carlyle. She married Jerry William (Bill) DeVries in 1945. Helen graduated from Western Washington University and was an elementary teacher in Bellingham School System in Bellingham, Washington for 30 years. She was an avid gardener, an accomplished knitter, and an enthusiastic traveler.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband – Jerry William DeVries, son – William Harry DeVries, son-in-law – Neil Valentine, and three brothers – Byron Carlyle, Stewart Carlyle, and Robert Carlyle.
She is survived by her daughter – Christine Valentine of South Haven, Michigan. Her two grandchildren – Nicolas and Laura Valentine. Her sister – Ruth Miller of Seattle, Washington and by one niece and nephew.
