Valda June Carrier

Valda June Carrier, 74 of Lacota went to the arms of her heavenly Father May 10, 2008 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born June 28, 1933 in Ganges, Michigan to Victor and Iva (Bolles) Orr. Valda graduated from South Haven High School in 1951. She married James “Jim” Carrier, the love of her life, on September 8, 1960 in Glenn, Michigan. Valda loved books and recently completed a writing class and was beginning to write children’s books. She also wrote poetry and had some of her work published in a poetry anthology. Valda was a member of Bethel Baptist of South Haven. Jim and Valda helped to start and build several mission churches in New York and Michigan. Valda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, dear friend and prayer warrior.

She was preceded in death, along with her parents, by her brother Charles Orr and sister Evelyn Collins.

She is survived by her husband- James ‘Jim” Carrier of Lacota, Michigan, two sons- Richard (Joyce) Carrier or Lawrence, Michigan, James Jr. (Marcia) Carrier, and one daughter – Iva (Jef) Patterson of Hastings, Michigan. She adored her 9 grandchildren and enjoyed the giggles and antics of her 2 precious great-grandsons. She is also survived by two brothers-Floyd (Ruth) Orr of South Haven, Michigan and Ivan Orr of Lawrence, Michigan.


Visitation will be Monday, May 12, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Dale Byers officiating. Burial will take place at Lee Township Cemetery.
