Legirtha Brown

Legirtha Brown, 79, of Covert died Sunday, March 23 at Watervliet Community Hospital.

She was born June 15, 1928 in Waynesboro, Mississippi to Mitchell and Annie (Lewis) Mayfield. Legirtha married William D. Brown in 1951in Chicago, Illinois. Legirtha along with her husband owned and operated Brown’s Grocery in Covert. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Covert and the United Civic Organization. Legirtha also worked at the Covert Public Schools.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – William Brown who died in 2000. Also by a sister, Alvinia Mayfield. One brother – Wilmer Mayfield.

She is survived by two sons – William Tyronne Brown of San Diego, California and Robert Brown of Covert, Michigan. Five daughters – Gwendolyn Fairley of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Ann Brown of South Haven, Michigan, Shelia Brown- Jackson of Ft. Worth, Texas, Lorraine Brown-Cunningham and Priscilla Brown- Newell both of Covert, Michigan. 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. One brother – Leabon Mayfield – Jackson, Mississippi. Two sisters – Louise Ellis of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Daisy Brown of South Haven, Michigan. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Wake will be Saturday, March 29, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Covert. Funeral services will begin at !2:00 PM at the church with Pastor Adrain Massenburg officiating.
