Charles "Charlie"'s Obituary

Charles “ Charlie” Edward Sawyer, 66 of Covert, Michigan when to be with his Lord on December 29, 2007 at his home with his beloved wife Theresa Sawyer, and his son Mark and Vincent Sawyer and along with his daughter-in-law Chavonne Sawyer at his bedside. Charles was born on July 26, 1941 in Forsyth County, North Carolina to the union of Charlie B. and Sussie (Davis) Sawyer. Charles received his education for Lincoln Elementary, Central Middle School and L.C. Mohr High School in South Haven, Michigan. He also attended Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor. Charles worked and retired from Shoreline Bank of Benton Harbor in 2003.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers – Paul, Cecil and Elmer Sawyer. Two children – Victor and Stacey Sawyer and one sister-in-law, Cleverdette McKinney.

Charles is survived by his loving and devoted wife – Theresa (Giles) Sawyer. His children – Marvin (Hyon) McKenzie of South Korea, Carolyn Polinice of Covert, Michigan, Michael McKenzie of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Beverly (Wilborn) Sawyer of South Haven, Michigan, Vaniece (Maurice) Morrison and Mark (Chavonne) Sawyer of Grand Rapids, Michigan., Vincent Sawyer of Atlanta, Georgia, Monica (Lee) Winters, Dale (Vivian) Mitchell and Cassandra (James) Jackson of Chicago, Illinois. 21 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren also survive. Father-in-law Cleveland Giles Sr. Brother-in-law Cleveland Giles Jr. both of Chicago, Illinois. 5 sister-in-laws – Clydet Patterson , Michelle (Eddie) Stovall, Alethia (Michael) Ingram, Paulette Giles, Rose Giles and a favorite aunt – Lucinda Giles of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Charles was a very private man. He was very quiet, affectionate, loving, kind and had a giving spirit. He loved life, would take time to listen whenever there was a problem or concern. Never critizing, always offering a word of encouragement like, “I got your back”. He was called “Babe” by his wife and Grandpa “C” by his grandchildren. He was always talked about his love for the Lord. His favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalms. His favorite song was “Amazing Grace”.
