L.V. Rayburn

L.V. Rayburn, 72, of South Haven died Friday, November 30 at his home.

He was born August 18, 1935 in Hackleburg, Alabama to Joseph and Ethel (Smith) Rayburn. L.V. married Marilyn Packard on February 16, 1957 in South Haven. L.V. worked as a group leader for Trelleborg for 36 years retiring in 1997. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, hunting, fishing and gardening. L.V. loved traveling in his motor home but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

With a look, a smile or shared memory my Dad had the gift of making the people close to him feel like they were the most important person in his life. Even though he had three children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren when you were with him you felt like you were the favorite and the most loved. This didn’t stop with his immediate family he made everyone feel this way, both family and friends.

This gift he gave us is something that all of us can take away with us.

He is preceded in death along with his parents by 4 brothers – Lonnie, George, Marvin, and J.E. Rayburn.

He is survived by his wife – Marilyn Rayburn of South Haven. One son – Brian (Judy) Rayburn of Slidell, Louisiana. Two daughters – Laura (Tom) Rusin and Anita (Butch) Vigansky both of South Haven. Eleven grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. One brother – R.T. (Audry) Rayburn of Lacota and Frances R. Cagel of Bangor, Michigan. Special friend – Daniel Wolford also survives.


Visitation will be from 3 -5 on Tuesday, December 4 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Koller officiating. Burial will take place at Monks Cemetery in Geneva Township. Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society or South Haven Area Hospice.
