Grace A.'s Obituary
Grace A. Johnston, 93, of South Haven died Sunday, August 19 at South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community.
She was born February 21, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois to Christ and Harriet (Clabots) Baker. Grace married William A. Johnston in 1943 and spent the majority of her life in the Casco Township community. Grace was involved as a 4H leader, she belonged to the Casco Ladies Aid, Casco Garden Club, Home Extension, Rebecca Lodge, and AARP. She also was a WE CARE volunteer. She was a member of the Casco United Methodist Church and served as church treasurer from 1971 – 1996. Grace was also Casco Township treasurer from 1971 – 1988. Grace will be remembered for her “Apple Cake” and the beautiful roses grown in her garden. Grace also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and reading.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – William Johnston who died in 1975 and her brother – Frank Baker in 1998. Son-in-law – Cort Sicard also precedes her.
She is survived by one son – William L. Johnson of South Haven. Two daughters – Judith Klosterman of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Harriet Sicard of South Haven. Five grandchildren – Walter (Kathy) Sicard, Cynthia Geene, Karen (Dan) Fleming, Brenda (Rick) Isenhart and Eric Klosterman. 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 22 from 6 – 8 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at the Casco United Methodist Church with Pastor Dave Meister officiating. Burial will take place at McDowell Cemetery.
