Jane Hawkins

Jane Hawkins, 94, of Covert went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 13 at Laurels of Galesburg in Galesburg, Michigan.

She was born March 24, 1913 in Lexington, Mississippi to James and Rosa (Torrey) Lofton. Jane was a member of the First Baptist Church, Covert, Michigan. She moved to Kalamazoo in 2002. Jane graduated from Lanier High School in Jackson, Mississippi in 1932 and in 1961 she graduated from nursing school as a licensed practical nurse. Jane retired from the Veterans Administrations Hospital in Hines, Illinois. Jane, Aunt Jane to many, enjoyed traveling, sewing, making and wearing hats, and her flower and vegetable gardens. She was very loving, and giving to her family and friends.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her siblings – James, Joseph and Charles Lofton and Fannie Proctor.

She is survived by her siblings – Peter Lofton of Chattanooga, Tennessee and – Rachel Freeman of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Nieces – Yvonne Jones, Annie Rose Hutchinson and Doris Moore. Nephews – Willie and Charles Proctor, Georgedq` and Raymond Freeman and James, Alfred, Desmond and Desi Lofton and a host of grand nieces and nephews.

Wake will be from 10 – 11 on Thursday, May 17 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Alfred Bailey and Rev.
