Gena's Obituary
Gena Mary Ramsey, 85, passed away on April 21, 2007 at River Ridge Retirement Community in South Haven, Michigan. She was born on September 3, 1921 in Bloomingdale, Michigan to Gaetano “Tom” and Amalia “Mary” (Venturini) Bertorelli. Gena married E.A. “Lucky” Ramsey on September 21, 1947 and they made their home in South Haven until his death in 1996. She was a beloved wife and mother – a lifelong homemaker, raising her boys and active in PTA, volunteering as a room mother and in the Cub Scouts. Gena worked at Lincoln Elementary School for many years until her retirement in 1986. Her hobbies included camping, canning, baking, cards and conversation. She loved to dance and she and Lucky were members of the Elks Club. After Lucky’s retirement they spent time traveling in the south: Texas, Florida and Arizona. Gena was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC of South Haven for more than 50 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Lucky, one son: Michael in 2004, one brother: Dick Bertorelli and three sisters: Ena Bowie, Anna Freislinger and Linda Owen.
Gena is survived by her sons: Rick and his wife Becky Ramsey of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Daughter in law: Lisa Ramsey in Austin, Texas. Grandsons: Chase, Kellen and Tucker of Kalamazoo and Jake of Austin, Texas. Brother in Law: Art Bowie and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 24 from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home, with funeral services on Wednesday, April 25, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Congregational Church UCC with the Rev. Catherine Batten-Balk officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery, South Haven, Michigan. Memorials may be made to South Haven Area Hospice.
