Venita's Obituary

Venita M. Tragna, 92 of South Haven died Friday, March 23 at South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community surrounded by her three children.

She was born January 3, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois to Claude and Edith (Harmon) Rogers. Venita came to South Haven at age 13 and put herself through high school. She was a 1932 graduate of South Haven High School. Venita worked as a machine operator for the World War II efforts making B-29 Bombers. Venita helped with every election for 50 years as an election worker in South Haven. She enjoyed sewing and was an excellent seamstress. She also like to fish and hunt but most of all she loved to watch the sunsets here in South Haven. Venita always put others before herself. Venita was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC of South Haven.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her 1st husband of 35 years – Harry A. Fritz who died in 1967, her 2nd husband of 20 years – Sam Tragna in 1991. Two brothers – Ralph and Bus Rogers and one sister – Betty Rogers also precede her in death.

She is survived by two sons – Jack (Jill) Fritz of Edmonds, Washington and Thomas (Cathlene) Fritz of South Haven, Michigan. One daughter – Adelaide (Richard) Pence of Marco Island, Florida. Seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great grand son also survive.

Visitation will be Monday, March 26, from 5 to 7 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 7:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Jeffrey S. Dick officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, South Haven. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Congregational Church or to the Historical Association of South Haven.
