Jeanette Marian Stieve

Jeanette M. Stieve of South Haven passed away Friday, March 16, 2007.

She was born June 21, 1919 in Covert Township, Michigan, the youngest child of Olof and Sigrid (Bengtsdotter) Olson. She was baptized at home and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Covert. Jeanette graduated from Covert High School and Western Michigan College of Education. Jeanette had a great love for history and spent many years researching and writing about the history of South Haven. She was a founding member of the Historical Association of South Haven. Most recently, Jeanette worked on a manuscript about the early African American history of South Haven in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Black History Leadership Society. Jeanette was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Walter Stieve who died in 1997.

She is survived by two sons – Thomas Stieve and Kenneth Stieve both of South Haven, Michigan, one daughter – Susan (Paul) Damon of St. Paul, Minnesota, sister – Maxine Drenth of South Haven, Michigan, many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.

Memorial services will be held Friday, March 23 at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Fisher officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Black History Leadership Society, which provides college scholarship to African American students from the South Haven and Covert areas, First United Methodist Church or the Historical Association of South Haven.
