Seth's Obituary
Seth Smith Sr., age 76, of Lawrence MI, passed away Thursday March 8, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Ann Arbor MI. Seth was born January 26, 1932 in Ofahoma, Mississippi, the son of Kemble Peterson and Carol Smith.
Seth attended Burke Elementary in Chicago IL, and graduated with honors from Tilden High School in Chicago IL. He served as a reserve ROTC officer at Fort Sheraton in Illinois. He attended the Illinois Institute of Technology which was interrupted by military service. In 1951-1953, Seth served in Korea, after discharge he remained in the army reserve for a number of years. Seth later pursued his love for aviation obtaining his pilots license. He became a Master Plumber and held licenses in Illinois, Michigan and Indiana. His skills allowed him to work on several of Chicago’s noted building, including The John Hancock and the Chicago Civic Center. He traveled abroad working and teaching in Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Poland, The Czech Republic, Cuba and Mexico. He did top secret work for the Federal Government during his tours in these places. After retirement, he owned and operated his own business, Sanitary Plumbing. Seth’s favorite pass times were politics and NASCAR.
Seth is preceded by his parents Kemble Peterson and Carol Smith and granddaughter Renata Smith.
Surviving are his children Stephen Smith of Geneva, NY., Plato (Joyce) Smith Sr., of Covert, MI., Seth Smith Jr., of Marenisco, MI., Sheena (Edwin) Johnson of Cassopolis, MI., Kemble “Kenny” (Selena ) Smith of Niles, MI., Katarzyna “Kashia” Rollf of Niles, MI., Seztac Smith of Nashville, TN., 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, sister Helen Galberth of Fairburn GA., and two brothers, Robert “Bob” Sims of Detroit, MI., and Hollus (Meral) Smith of Chicago., IL along with a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will meet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 17, 2007 at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven, MI. Memorial services immediately following at 2:00 P.M., Saturday March 17, 2007. The family will meet and fellowship at the Civic Center in Covert after the memorial service. Seth will be buried at Fort Custer National Cemetery Monday, March 19, 2007 at 2:00 p.m.
