Joseph's Obituary

Joseph Wilkins, 86, of South Haven peacefully departed this life on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation community.

He was born September 15, 1920 in Gary, Indiana the third child born to Esther and Georgia Wilkins. Joseph spent his early years in Gary until he moved to Bangor, Michigan in 1952 with his sister, Viola (Wilkins) Settler. Once there, he worked with her and her husband, William Settler on their dairy farm. Joseph moved to South Haven in 1990. He was known as “Uncle Jay” to those who knew and loved him. He was a familiar figure in the community as he frequently could be seen walking the streets of South Haven stretching his limbs. He also enjoyed going to the movies and being with his family.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents – Esther and Georgia Wilkins. Two sisters – Viola Settler and Gladys Walker and brother – James O. Wilkins Sr.

He leaves those who loved him including his sister-in-law – Shirley Wilkins of South Haven, Michigan and a host of nephews and nieces, great and great great nephews and nieces, cousins and many friends.

Wake will be Friday, January 26 from 12:30 – 1 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Joseph Wilkins officiating.
