Dorothy's Obituary
Dorothy M. Bartholomew, 75, of South Haven passed away Sunday, October 22, 2006 at her home in the presence of her family.
Dorothy was born October 1, 1931 in South Haven, Michigan to Charles and Gwendolyn (Haynes) Allen. She was a lifelong resident of South Haven graduating from South Haven High School in 1950. Following graduation Dorothy worked as an operator for the GTE Phone Company. On July 19, 1952 she was united in marriage with George Bartholomew at her parent’s house on Indiana Ave. in South Haven. After her youngest child started school, Dorothy went to work as a cashier at Tragna Bros., Barensen Candy Company and Fisher Big Wheel. She later worked at the Golden Brown Bakery until her retirement in 1999. Dorothy was a devoted Christian and an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, played the piano, and served on various committees. Dorothy and George were also very active with the American Legion in South Haven. She served on numerous committees as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 48 years. Dorothy was a loving and caring wife, sister, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family on holidays and special occasions.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by two brothers – Bill and Don Allen.
She is survived by her husband – George Bartholomew of South Haven. Two sons – Bill Bartholomew and David (Doreen) Bartholomew both of South Haven. One daughter – Alice Noskey of Bloomingdale, Michigan. Seven grandchildren – Michael Bartholomew, Jobina (Fred) Coleman, Amy (Jeremy) Davis, Dallas Bartholomew, Stacey (Lee) Wynn, Wade Bartholomew and Camren Bartholomew. Seven Great grandchildren. One sister – Rebecca (Ray) Hintze of California. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 25 from 6 – 8 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Fisher officiating. Burial will take place at Chambers Cemetery in Geneva Township. Memorial contributions can be made to South Haven Area Hospice.
