Danny's Obituary

Danny Laverne Greenman, 71, of South Haven formerly of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12 at Bronson Methodist Hospital.

He was born February 5, 1935 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Dee L. and Mary M. (Fisher) Greenman. Danny grew up in Battle Creek area. Danny graduated from Lakeview High School in1953 where he excelled in football and basketball. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1957 from Michigan State University. He also graduated from the Air Force ROTC program at MSU. Danny spent a year teaching in the Springfield school system. Danny served his country in the U,S. Air Force where he achieved the rank of Captain. After spending time being stationed in Missouri, San Antonio, Texas and Fort Walton Bench, Florida he and his family set up residence in South Haven, first serving as a teacher and assistant football coach in the South Haven Public School system, and for the past 43 years as an agent for State Farm Insurance. Danny enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling to his family cottage near Grand Marais, Michigan. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of South Haven where he served as a Deacon, Moose Lodge # 868, American Legion Post #49, and a former member of the South Haven Rod and Gun Club where he taught Hunter’s safety courses and penned a weekly column titled “Rod & Reel” for the South Haven Dailey Tribune. He also belonged to Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, spent time coaching Connie Mack baseball, and was a member of the Democratic party where he served as a Convention Delegate to the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago and proud to have been invited to the Lyndon Johnson/Hubert Humphrey Presidential Inauguration. He enjoyed watching football, baseball, MSU basketball and the occasional Spartan football victory.

He is preceded in death by his father – Dee L. Greenman who died in 1978. His first wife – Barbara Brye in 1964 and a very special aunt – Edith Baker in 1990.

He is survived by his wife – Betsy (Stewart) Greenman of South Haven, Michigan. His Mother – Mary (Lloyd) Feasel of Battle Creek, Michigan. Five children – Timothy Greenman of Battle Creek, Michigan, Ted Greenman of Arvada, Colorado, Tristan Greenman of South Haven, Michigan, Tracy Greenman of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Tiffany Greenman of Lansing, Michigan. Three step-children – Sandy Bradfield of Muskegon, Michigan, Kathy (Bill) Perysian of Fruitport, Michigan, and John (Janet) Stewart of Nunica, Michigan. A brother – Dennis Greenman of Palm Bay, Florida. Step-sister – Nancy Sutherlans of Battle Creek, Michigan and step-brother – Bill (Elaine) Feasel of Battle Creek, Michigan. Grandchildren – Tyler and Geoffrey Greenman of Arvada, Colorado, Jared Marr of South Haven, Rachel (Noah) Peterson of Muskegon, Michigan, Raelynn Perysian of Fruitport, Michigan, Autumn and Travis of Muskegon, Michigan and Jessica Stewart of Nunica, Michigan. One nephew and three nieces also survive.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 15 from 2 – 4 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday at 1:00 P.M. at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Jeffrey S. Dick officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Congregational Church or to the Diabetes Foundation.
