Beatrice Allena's Obituary
Beatrice Allena Donovan, 91, of South Haven died peacefully on Tuesday, July 25 at home.
She was born November 23, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Allena (Winder) Farrell. In 1921 her family moved to the farm in Casco Township. Upon graduating from South Haven High School in 1932, she attended Nazarath College in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was employed for many years as an accountant. On June 16, 1952 Beatrice married Kenneth Andrew Donovan. She was active with her family as a 4-H Cooking instructor, a Campfire Leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. Beatrice was active in the Instrumental Band Boosters, the South Haven Choir’s Vienna Auction, the Art Fairs St. Basil Bagel Booth and the Our Town Players ticket sales. In 1983 Beatrice organized a fund raiser with Bob Gabel and Muriel Bach to build steps for the Arthritic Water Exercise Class. The first class was held Jan. 30, 1984 and continues to meet three times a week. Beatrice was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Kenneth Andrew Donovan who died in 1970. Daughter – Aleta Anne Kleinerman in 1987, brother – Charles and nephew Michael.
She is survived by her sons – Charles Donovan and Barry (Sue) Donovan both of South Haven. Grandchildren – Mickey Donovan of South Haven and Andrew David Kleinerman of Santa Cruz, California. Sister – Genevieve Farrell of South Haven.
Nieces – Kathleen Osburn of Three Oaks, Michigan and Louise (Bruce) Wilkens of Rifle, Colorado. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 27 from 5 – 8 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Catholic Church with Rev. Father John Young officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Basil’s Educational Endowment Fund.
