Bessie Remick

Bessie Elizabeth Remick, 86, of South Haven died Monday, July 17 at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community.

She was born November 26, 1919 in Holland, Michigan to Vern and Sadie (Forey) Vedder. Bessie married Frank Remick on July 21, 1941 at Ganges United Methodist Church. Bessie worked at several restaurants as a cook in the South Haven Area. Bessie also delivered the News Paladium for several years. She loved to sew. Bessie was a member and served as chaplain of the VFW Auxiliary #667 in South Haven. Bessie volunteered at the South Haven Community Hospital Auxillary where she took the shopping cart around to inpatients. Bessie was also a member of the Kibbie Christian Reformed Church and Church Women United.

She is preceded in death by along with her parents by her husband Frank Remick who died in 2002. A sister – Dora Vedder and brother – Lloyd Vedder. Two grandchildren – Theresa Beer and Rickey Bailey also precede her.

She is survived by six children – Dixie Lewis of Grand Haven, Michigan, Sandra (Richard) Holton of Seattle, Washington, Linda (Jerry) Drake, Sharon (Bill) Kamen, Diana (Stan) Kowitz and Nancy (Howard) Hubley all of South Haven, Michigan. 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 – 2 on Friday, July 21 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Geritt Haagsma officiating. Burial will take place at McDowell Cemetery, Casco Township. Memorial contributions can be made to Kibbie Christian Reformed Church or Al-Van Human Society.
