Evelyn Irene's Obituary

Evelyn I. Hocking, 89, of South Haven died Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Hospice House in Holland.

She was born May 8, 1917 in South Haven, Michigan to Edward and Irene (Leverton) Peterson. Evelyn graduated from South Haven High School in 1935. She received her Registered Nursing Degree from Sparrow Hospital . She married Robert Hocking on July 22, 1940 in South Haven at First United Methodist Church. Evelyn worked at the South Haven Memorial Library for 40 years as a library assistant retiring in 1983. Evelyn also volunteered at the South Haven Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Scott Club in South Haven and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Robert Hocking who died in July 12, 1985.

She is survived by two daughters – Susan (Norris) March of Zeeland, Michigan and Mary Ann (Dennis Davidson) Hocking of Muskegon, Michigan. Four grandchildren – Dr. Norris March IV, Dr. Lynne March, Meredith (Kevin) Kropf and Dr. Nathan ( Dr. Anessa Songer) March. One great grand daughter – Marguerite Kropf.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 13, from 12 to 1:00 PM at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Services will begin at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Harold F. Filbrandt officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church or Holland Hospice at 360-1 W. 40th St., Holland, Michigan 49423.
