Frank D'Amore

Frank Joseph D’Amore, 89, of South Haven was surrounded by the love of his family as he passed peacefully in his sleep with one last smile on Sunday, April 30 at South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. He found peace and comfort hearing the words of the Lords Prayer in his last hours.
Frank was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1917. He was a lifetime resident and merchant of the city of South Haven. He married Concetta Tragna in 1939. They were married for 55 years. Frank was a beloved father of daughter, Marietta (Ronald) Kozlik, of South Haven, and son, Dominick D’Amore, of Bangor, Michigan. Mr. D’Amore was the co-owner of South Haven Produce Company from 1937 to 1979, servicing the many historical local resorts of that period. He serviced the surrounding area grocery stores which included several of South Havens then locally owned “Mon and Pop” grocery stores. He owned and operated several billiard and recreation halls in South Haven and Chicago. He was a driver for Woodhams Ford dealership and Great Lakes Car Co… Frank was a lifetime member of the Elks and Moose Clubs, Saint Basil’s Catholic Church and the South haven Country Club. Frank loved Glenn Miller recordings, golf, shooting pool, playing cards, visiting with his neighbors, and talking long enough convince you of his point of view. He was often seen by the passers by of North Shore Drive, while raking leaves and shoveling snow from his driveway.
Frank was a loving “Grandpa” of Terri (Lynn) Dotson, South Haven, MI, Rhonda (Jeff) Weigle of Lake Jackson, TX, Donna (Jim) Jordan of South Haven and Vickiy (Steve) Wall of South Haven, MI. Great grandpa to Jamie (Andy) Manning, Ronald Tyler Dotson, Quincie Weigle J.D. Kozlik, Neil Jordan, Sandra Vilims, Teryn Dotson and Concetta (Cici) Wall. Great great “Bumpa” to Pierce, Maverick and Jaiden Manning. He is survived by his brother, Charles Damore of Sacramento, CA. and his sister, Andrea Higgins, of Lombard, Ill. Many nieces and nephews and his cherished friends, Frances Otto, Dorothy Wood and Tony Penrose all of South Haven.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dominick and Mary (Ferrarra) D’Amore, his wife Concetta (Tragna) and his sister, Vivian Mendey.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven on Thursday, May 4 at 1:00 P.M. and will be officiated by Pastor Jerry Koller.
