Neil's Obituary

Neil John Henry, 69, of South Haven died October 13, 2012 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Neil was born on December 28, 1942 to Edward and Bessie (Youngblood) Henry in South Haven. He graduated from South Haven High School in 1961 and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Neil worked for the United States Postal Service for 27 ½ years. After retiring Neil worked as a handyman for many years in South Haven, where he enjoyed helping people. Neil loved golf, puzzles and going to the bowling alley for dinner. He also looked forward to meeting with his Tuesday morning coffee group at Village Market. Neil was a member of the South Haven Elks #1509, Moose #697 and the American Legion Post #49. Neil was very proud of his family and was always there for them. He was a very caring man and will be dearly missed by many. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Nancy Henry; a daughter Alice Warren, and his brothers Edward, Bill, Jim and Jack Henry. Neil is survived by his children, Cassandra Dubetsky of Eldred, Penn., Michelle Parrish of South Haven,, Edward Henry of Eldred, Penn., and Joe (Karen) Smith of Graettinger, Iowa; his brothers Harold (Joan) Henry of Mattawan, and Thomas (Cookie) Henry of South Haven, his sister Bette (Dave) Allers of South Haven, 14 grand children, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who meant a lot to him. Neil is also survived by his very dear friend, Nancy Asche. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 17 from 5-8 pm at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert S. Linstrom officiating. Burial will take place at McDowell Cemetery; Casco Township, Mich. Memorials may be made to a local charity of the donor’s choice, American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
