Herta's Obituary

Herta Morehead, 81, of Holland, MI, died on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Resthaven Care Center,  For nearly three years, the Resthaven Staff lovingly cared for her while helping Herta and her family through each stage of dementia.

Herta was born April 30, 1931 in Linz, Austria to Johann and Angela (Wurm) Jungreithmayr.  She grew up in Sierning, Austria where she lived until meeting her husband, Clifford Morehead, in Salzburg, Austria while he was serving with the US Army.  They were married June 15, 1952.  Heata came to the United States in 1955 with Clifford and their first daughter, Carol.

Clifford served in the US Army for 29 years, the family lived in Germany as well as all over the United States and like others in the military never anywhere longer than 3 years.  Herta was always a very strong and supportive wife and mother.  Throughout their marriage, Herta lovingly raised her daughters Carol, Dianne and Jeanette even when alone while Clifford was twice in Vietnam as well as various remote tours around the world.  In 1956 and 1958, Herta first lived in South Haven, close to Clifford’s family, raising her first two daughters while Clifford served a year in Thailand and then again in Iran.  During this time she continued to learn English better, studied for and then received her US Citizenship for which she was very proud.

Herta was a fun loving person, determined,  sometimes feisty, and always respected.  She enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards, traveling, line dancing, and various other Senior Citizen activities.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death along with her parents, Johann and Angels (Wurm) Jungreithmayr, by her husband, Clifford Morehead, by her brother and sister-in-law, Johann and Berta (Schnitzhofer) Jungreithmayr, and son Michael Morehead.

Herta is survived by her children – Carol (Stephen) King of South Haven, MI, Dianne (Troy) McLeod of Idaho Falls, ID, Jeanette Hasenkamp of Indianapolis, IN.  Five grandchildren – Michelle Connor, Bryan King, Charles Clark, Brittney Spencer, Cameron McLeod.  Three great-grandchildren – Matthew King, Riven and Rylie Spencer and several nieces and nephews also survive.  Her beloved Lhasa Apso – Casey who through his daily visits to Resthaven Care Center helped to brighten her days.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, December 15 at 11:00 am at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home with Rev.
