Josephine Marsala

Josephine Marsala, 88, of Covert died on January 7, 2013 at South Haven Health System. She was born on July 12, 1924 to Virgilio and Maria (Agro) Gagliano in Manhattan, New York. She liked to cook and crochet. Also, she took great joy in her annual Christmas display. She would swell with pride with each car that stopped to admire the display and the cards of admiration that were always soon to follow. She worked for many years with her husband on their dairy farm. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet. Josephine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Marsala.

Josephine is survived by her daughters- Emy (Jack) Drummond of Watervliet, MI and Maria (Gary) Alkire of Portage, MI and her son Tony (Pam) Marsala of South Haven, MI. Six grandchildren- Rob (Renee) Drummond, Christopher Drummond, Bryan (Stephanie) Alkire, Jaime Alkire, Tony Marsala Jr., and Stacy Marsala. Six great-grandchildren- Annabel, Cole, Sarah, Jack II, Ella, and Sophia. Sisters- Caroline (Vincent) Fontana of San Marcos, CA, Tina Palmari of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, and Rosetta Fontana of Commack, NY. Sister-in-law Mary Gowens of Watervliet, MI also survives.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 10, from 6 to 8 PM at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, January 11, at 11:00 AM at St. Basil Catholic Church officiated by Rev. Father Robert Flickinger. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Watervliet, MI. Memorial contributions can be made to Countryside Nursing Home.
