Rosie Lee Maggard

Rosie's Obituary

 

Rosie Lee Maggard was born on December 8, 1924 in Hollandale, MS. to Cornelius “Jerry” and Beatrice “Big Mama” Ross.  She was 1 of 13 children, 12 of which preceded her in death.  She received her education and graduated from Simmons H.S. in Hollandale, MS.  She quietly slipped away to rest in eternity on Thursday February 7, 2013 at Orchard Grove Extended Care facility.

She moved to New Madrid, MO met and married John Henry Allen unto this union she was blessed with 4 children.  She later moved to St. Louis, MO met and married Luther Maggard unto this union she was blessed with 3 children.  Rosie later moved to Michigan, in 1960.  While in Michigan she lived in Eau Claire, South Haven, Benton Harbor, but for 40 years her main residency was Covert, MI.

She faithfully served the Lord for over 70 years in numerous capacities and had been a member of First Baptist Church under the tutelage of Rev. Sherman McClain, Gospel Tabernacle, in Covert, MI under the tutelage of Rev. Willie Lewis, and her last membership was at Second Baptist Church in Benton Harbor, MI under the tutelage of Rev. Kenneth Gavin besides frequenting Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church where her son Rev. Henry Allen, Sr. is the present pastor until her health began to decline. 

She leaves to cherish in her loving memory, 5 children: Dorothy (Annais) Miller of Chicago, IL: Henry (Regina) Allen of South Haven, MI: Charles (JoAnn) Allen and Robert (Paula) Maggard both of Benton Harbor, MI: and Juanita Larkin of Kalamazoo, MI., Anquenette Maggard, of Indianapolis, IN a “Special” Grand Daughter she raised as her own since the age of 23 months, 19 Grand Children, 37 Great Grand Children, and 4 Great Great Grand Children and a “Special” niece Beatrice Jenkins of South Haven, MI who lived with Rosie and was dedicated helping care for her during her later years. Along with a host of many nephews and nieces.  If we missed anyone please except our sincere apology.  Rosie was also preceded in death her husband Luther Maggard and two children Louise (George) Wilson and Shirley Maggard.

Services will be held on Saturday February 16, 2013 at Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church in Covert, Mi. with Pastor Henry Allen officiating.  She will be laid to rest at the Covert Cemetery.  Family hour will be from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon and Homegoing celebration is at 12:00 noon.
