Joseph's Obituary

Joseph Anthony Querfurth Sr., 86, of Coloma, formerly of Chicago and Las Vegas, passed away Thursday, March 7, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

He was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Chicago to Baltasar and Kunigunda Querfurth. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II. In 1950, he married his bride of 47 years, Marjorie (McGourain), who preceded him in death in 1997. In 1951, Joe and Marge moved to the Coloma area, where they raised four sons. Joe was employed for 10 years as a police officer for the city of Coloma and also was a truck driver for Williams Bros. Paper Box Co. in St. Joseph until moving to Las Vegas in 1977. There he was a transportation technician and terminal manager for Motor Cargo until his retirement. Joe moved back to Coloma to be near his family and enjoy retirement.

Before his declining health, Joe enjoyed working on most anything mechanical. He believed that if man made it, then it's repairable.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie Basset; and a brother, John Querfurth. He is survived by four sons - Daniel (Deborah), Patrick (Martha), Thomas (Karen) and Joseph Jr. (Tina); grandchildren - Justin, Danielle, Christopher, Quincy, Jason, Tiffany, Trisha and Tiana; great-grandchildren - Jacob, Jaylee, Jaden and Margaret Sue; and step-grandchildren Cesar, Alex, Mackenna and Brandon.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Watervliet. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Watervliet. A luncheon will follow at the church at noon.
