Mars's Obituary
Mars Emitt Kimbrough went home to the Lord March 17, 2013, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI. “Spoogie” as he was fondly referred to was born on April 7, 1939 to Marshall and Geneva Kimbrough in Chicago, Ill. Mars spent his childhood in Chicago. At age 17, Mars enlisted into the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country. After his service, Mars secured employment in the healthcare industry as a nursing attendant at the V.A. Hospital in Battlecreek, MI. He went on to various laboring jobs of meaningful significance. Mars accepted the Lord and his son Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age and relied on his spiritual beliefs to be a shield to him throughout his life. On July 4, 1960, he married his childhood sweetheart Clara “Cookie” Farris from Los Angeles, CA. They had two daughters, Deborah Monique Kimbrough and Jacquelyn Michelle Kimbrough.
In 1961, Mars and Clara moved to Chicago, Ill., there he enjoyed his family and hunting with his father and uncles. Following his parting with Clara and his daughters, while working for Sherman Williams Paint Co. he met and married Albertha Ellis and her daughter Sylvia. From that union his only beloved son Mars E. Kimbrough II was born. Along with summer visitations with daughters Deborah, Jacque & Sylvia and eventually the birth of Mars II they enjoyed cherished memories of many fun-filled family events.
Mars was a self proclaimed “Big-Shot”, proud of himself and his family’s accomplishments. He was engaged in all sports put most particularly baseball, football and gambling. As well, like his mother he was a chef at heart and after accompanied his meal preparations with a cold beer!
