Irene's Obituary
Irene Elizabeth Burrows, 100, of South Haven died Friday, June 28, 2013 at her home under hospice care. She was born November 24, 1912 to Bert and Fannie (Martin) Quakenbush in Bangor, Michigan. She married Lewis E. Burrows on October 27, 1932 in St. Joseph County, Indiana. Irene worked as an LPN nurse at the South Haven Community Hospital when it was first opened at its present location on Bailey Avenue. She also worked for Dr. Gano in Bangor for eleven years. Irene also started the Red Hat Society in South Haven in 1990.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Lewis E. Burrows, Sr.; son – Gordon Burrows; sister – Thelma Meyer.
Irene is survived by her son – Lewis (Eve) Burrows, Jr. of Grand Haven; daughter-in-law – Patricia Peach of Battle Creek; brother – Donald Quakenbush of Vicksburg. Nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven. Irene will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery next to her husband Lewis.
