Kathryn's Obituary

Kathryn Kilby Borland, b. 14 August 1916 Pullman MI, d. 29 August 2013 Fennville MI. Her parents were Paul Kilby and Vinnie Bensinger Kilby. Decades-long Indianapolis resident. Graduated Shortridge and Butler University. Editor and columnist, North Side Topics. With Helen Ross Speicher co-authored 20+ children’s and adult books including Southern Yankees, Houdini: Boy Magician, Phyllis Wheatley, Good-by to Stony Crick, and These Tigers’ Hearts. Goodwill Volunteer. Member from childhood of Central Christian Church. PEO. A strong supporter of human rights and social justice. Travelled frequently to Europe and Mexico. Preceded in death by her husband James Borland and her brother Robert Kilby. She is survived by her daughter Susan Borland and Susan’s partner Kathleen Schwegel, her son James Borland Jr. and his wife Inna Naroditskaya; three grandchildren, Nicholas Borland, Matthew Borland, and Nick Naroditski; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Borland and Jay Borland. Her family and friends will always remember and miss her, their loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend; a prolific writer, avid reader and traveler, devoted volunteer, invariably informed, positive, cheerful.
