John Duane Babcock

John's Obituary

John Duane Babcock, 82 of Fennville, died on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Grace of Douglas in Douglas, Michigan. He was born February 10, 1931 in Muskegon, Michigan to Kenneth and Marjorie (Berry) Babcock. John served in France during the Korean war where he became an accomplished fencer and fluent in French. He loved cars and racing. He belonged to the Sports Car Club of America and drove in many of their races and rallies. John was an Art Director for the Chicago Tribune for over 30 years. Upon retiring he enjoyed playing chess and painting. John was a member of the South Haven Art Center and taught local children to play chess and the art of painting.

John is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Ann (Comerford) Babcock of Fennville, Michigan, his children Tracy (Jay) Francis of Geneva, Illinois, Kevin (Susan) Babcock of Lincolnwood, Illinois, and his grandchildren Andrew Francis, Connor Babcock and Chloe Babcock.

Visitation  will be held Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. Memorial contributions for John can be made to the South Haven Center for the Arts 600 Phoenix Rd, South Haven, MI 49090.
