Myco's Obituary
On Wednesday, January 22nd 2014, heaven gained its newest angel when Myco Nexus (née Michael Butler) suddenly departed from this earth and went home. His spirit, thoughtfulness, and beauty will continue to live through those that were lucky to spend time with him.
He was born on September 18th, 1961 in Chicago, IL and grew up in Grand Junction, MI. After graduating from South Haven High School, Myco briefly moved to Chicago, IL before moving to Los Angeles, CA and finding his home in San Francisco in 1984. He would spend the next twenty-something years there before returning to Michigan to be near his best friend, his mother, at the turn of the century. Myco’s passions were many, but there were a few very close to his heart, such as tailoring and designing. He was also an artist, author, and pageant coach. Everything that he did was done with great care and attention to detail.
When talking to Myco, he possessed a way of making you feel like no matter what was going on, you were the only person in the room. No topic was taboo, and no gripe was too small for him to converse with you. His aura was remarkable, to the point where a complete stranger could talk to him as if they’d known him for years. He loved being in all-white, which was fitting for the purity and simplistic beauty of his soul.
Myco is predeceased by his mother and father, Vivian and Troy Butler Sr., and a very close and special friend, Bruno Rigacci; he is survived by three brothers – Troy (Roberta) Butler Jr., Troy S. (Mary) Butler, and Cleveland (Jessica) Butler; two sisters – Karen Richardson and Debra Butler; a host of close nieces and nephews, a close and special friend Julie Echols, and his beloved godson, Dorian Hilliard-Mackerel.
A small family service was held on February 1, 2014, and a jazz-style celebration of Myco’s life will be held on February 23rd in his place he considered home, San Francisco, CA. The family asks that in the spirit of Myco, please commit a random act of kindness for a person that you don’t know.
“Only the body dies, but the soul moves on.”
