Robert Duane Wines

Robert “Bob” Duane Wines passed away peacefully at home with family and friends by his side on May 11,2014. Bob was born at home in Covert, MI on January 30th, 1933 to Clifford & Bessie Wines. He graduated from Covert High School in 1951, and entered into the Air Force in the fall of 1951. While serving in Reno, he met his first wife Patricia Fitzgerald. She blessed him with three daughters. Bob worked for the United States Postal Service while living in Detroit Lakes MN. He was an over the road truck driver for many years before returning home to his home state of Michigan. He then opened D & B Country store by lake Van Auken with his brother Donnie Wines. In November of 1985 Bob met the love of his life Myrna Miller, always affectionately referring to her as “His Honey“. She was his rock and the absolute joy of his life. 

Retirement wasn’t for Bob, so he had a small lawn mowing business where he mowed lawns for family and friends, as well as repairing and selling used lawn mowers on the side. He drove van for the senior center in South Haven until, due to health reasons, he felt he could no longer be a good driver. Bob had many friends and a large family. He had a very giving heart, and would often be found helping someone out, or bringing them something he prepared in the kitchen. If you needed cheering up, he would pull out joke after joke until you were laughing and felt better. He was one of a kind, and there was no one like him.

Bob is proceeded in death by his parents Clifford and Bessie Wines, sister Grace Rhodes, and brother Donnie Wines. Bob is survived by his sister Joyce Ervick (Don), eternally beloved Honey, Myrna Miller, daughters Roberta Klatt (Edwin), Ruth Ann Wines, and Susan Wines, foster son Eugene Bohannon and step son Randy Miller (Liz), four grand children, two step-grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Covert Congregational Church in Covert, MI. Kindly share your thoughts and memories on the family’s online guestbook.
