John's Obituary
John William Meulendyk age 88 of South Haven died on September 19th at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan. He was born on November 30, 1925 to Peter and Marie (VanderHenst) Meulendyk in Grand Rapids, Michigan. John served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. John graduated from Notre Dame School of Engineering in 1946. John Married Dorothy Jean Dekker on August 21, 1947 at the Broadway Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids. John and Dorothy were long time members of Third Christian Reformed Church of Kalamazoo and for the last many years were members of the Hope Reformed Church of South Haven. He was an engineer at National Water Lift in Kalamazoo for over 35 years until his retirement in 1989. After his retirement he was active in Habitat for Humanity in South Haven.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Craig Meulendyk, his brother, Peter Meulendyk and his sisters, Connie Brouwer and Laurene VanderSluis.
John is survived by his wife of 67 years - Dorothy Meulendyk of South Haven. Daughters - Cheri Meulendyk of Alexandria, VA, and Pam (Tex) Biertuempfel of Penn Valley, CA. One son - Mark (Linda) Meulendyk of Kalamazoo, MI. 5 grandchildren - Elizabeth (Darren) Chapel, John Peter Biertuempfel, Chris Biertuempfel, Angela (Dave) Curry and Chad Campbell. 2 great grand children - David Curry Jr. and Valarie Campbell also survive.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 12:00 on Saturday October 4th followed by memorial services at 12:00 at the Hope Reformed Church of South Haven with Rev. Curry Pikkaart officiating. Private internment will take place at McDowell Cemetery in Casco Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Reformed Church of South Haven, MI.
