Richard's Obituary

Richard Allen Thompson, 75, of South Haven, MI, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Borgess Medical Center. He was born, December 12, 1938 to Albert and Verna (Taylor) Thompson in Chicago, IL. During his life, Richard owned and opperated Thompson's Hardware Store in Chicago for 10 years. He also worked at Montgomery Ward's in Kalamazoo, MI for over 14 years, and was a Deacon at the Gospel Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. Richard most recently was a security guard at Palisades Nuclear Plant until he retired in 2002 due to health issues. He enjoyed working outside and was known as a "Jack of All Trades" and quite the "tinkerer".

 

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings - Cedric Thompson, Walter Thompson, Sherman Thompson, and Shirley Teal.

 

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Geneva (Rucker) Thompson. Children - Orsella Thompson of Buchanan, MI, Patrick (Venus) Thompson of Tulsa, OK. Grandchildren - Jamaca and Enya. Sibling - Lawrence (Glenda) Thompson of Mequon, WI. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

 

The visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. at the Gospel Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Covert, MI. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. officiated by Pastor Henry Allen.
