Robert's Obituary
Robert Berton Welton was born June 27, 1927 in Rochester, NY, the older son of Lawrence and Laura (Lamb) Welton. His family moved to the Holland area when was five years old. He attended Harrington Grade School and Holland High School, which he interrupted after his junior year to join the U.S. Navy. He spent a three-year hitch during and after WWII as a Navy Hospital Corpsman.
Taking advantage of the GI Bill enabled Bob to attend and graduate from Hope College. After teaching Biology at Hudsonville High School for two years, he took a job as a pharmaceutical salesman. Retiring after twenty five years, he and his wife started a sporting goods business in Newaygo, which ran successfully for ten years. They sold the business and moved to Casco Twp. to build their retirement home. They have traveled the country on numerous occasions but really feel at home with their Casco friends.
Bob was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Killgore, and a grandson, Nicky Spencer.
Those left behind include his beloved wife and best friend, Jacqueline Rose Welton, daughters Lois Killgore, Bonnie Rivait, and Susanne Spencer, four grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brother, David (Lucy Welton) of South Carolina, and dog Annie.
Despite numerous battles with cancer, Bob maintained that he had truly been blessed by God. He was part of a very loving and caring church family as well as his immediate family.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the Casco United Methodist Church with Rev. David Meister officiating.
