Alice's Obituary

Alice Ruth Blair, 77, of Covert, passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born December 7, 1937 to Charles and Lolia (Little) McKee in Chicago, Illinois. Alice married Oscar Blair, Jr. on November 19, 1960 in Covert. She worked as an Industrial Registered Nurse at DuWell, Bendix, Benton Harbor Schools and the Watervliet Hospital before retiring in 1994. Alice enjoyed crafting and had many sewing and crocheting projects. She served as the church secretary for many years at the Covert Community Church and volunteered at We Care Inc. Alice also served as a member of the school board for Covert Public Schools and worked many years with the Covert Queen Pageant.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by three brothers – Douglas McKee, Homer Blackman and James McKee, two sisters – Willa Mae Barnes and Mary Frances Johnson and grandchild – JaWann Young.

Alice is survived by her husband of 54 years – Oscar Blair, Jr. of Covert; children – Sharon (Andre) Williams of Covert, Steven Blair of South Haven, and Michael Blair of Kalamazoo; siblings – George (Vernetta) McKee of Covert, Joseph McKee of Covert, Earl (Eula) McKee of Benton Harbor, Edith (Bob) Calloway of Grand Rapids, and Dorothy Roland of Detroit. Twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Lily of the Valley Church. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Beverly Smith officiating at the church. Alice will be laid to rest at Covert Cemetery.
