Sally Benedict

Sally Ann Benedict, 69, of South Haven, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born June 11, 1945 to Norman and Marcellyn (Wilson) Belles in Allegan, Michigan. Sally graduated from Allegan High School in 1963 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Education from Western Michigan University. Sally taught early elementary in Fennville and Allegan. She married Michael Benedict on June 25, 1977 in Allegan. Sally was instrumental in helping to start the Autistic Impaired Program for Van Buren County. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and of the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven. She enjoyed gardening, shopping at thrift stores, and visiting with friends. Sally was an avid reader. She also enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Alison.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Sally is survived by her husband of 38 years – Michael Benedict; two sons – Steve (Abby) Benedict of Grand Rapids and David Benedict of Grand Junction; granddaughter – Alison Benedict; sister – Nancy Flowers of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Two nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Joseph Lull and Pastor Travis Wilson officiating. Sally will be laid to rest at Chambers Cemetery in Geneva Township.
