Mary's Obituary
Mary Frances Wilbur Jones, 89, of Covert and formerly of Kalamazoo, Michigan, died Monday, June 29, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. Mary was born March 28, 1926 in Kalamazoo to Edward C. and Frances Krueger Wilbur. She was a graduate of Ripon College where she was a member of the varsity rifle team and earned a degree in history. She married Ross Gambrill Jones on October 2, 1948 in Kalamazoo. After raising her four children, she worked at the WMU Bookstore for eleven years. She and Ross enjoyed their summer cottage, “The 19th Hole,” at Palisades Park Country Club in Covert, and eventually made it their permanent residence.
Mary and Ross were avid golfers, and she claimed a lifetime record of seven holes-in-one. She enjoyed playing bridge every week in South Haven. She passed the Michigan winters knitting and reading, loved lively discussions at book club meetings, and served on the board of the Covert Public Library.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Ross in 2003, and son Steve in 2004. Surviving are her brother Ed (Shirley) Wilbur of Kalamazoo, sons Rick (Susan) of Mount Angel, OR and Chuck (Mary Jo) of Bristol, IN, and daughter Carol (Jeff) Kane of Franklin, TN, nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Mary’s home, 79424 Ravine Way (29th Avenue), Covert, Michigan at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice in Kalamazoo, or to the Covert Public Library.
