Lt. Col. Charles's Obituary
Lt. Col. Charles E. “Smitty” Smith, 87, of Covert, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at his home under Hospice care. He was born August 1, 1928 to Charles T. and Margaret (Keller) Smith in Louisville, Kentucky. Charles served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict until retiring from service in 1970. He then went on to work for the State of New York as a civil engineer until his retirement in 1990. He married Angelene Grice on September 28, 1951 in Covert and enjoyed 53 years of marriage.
He is preceded in death along with his parents by his wife – Angelene Smith who passed in 2005.
Charles is survived by his daughter – Birgit Smith Burton of Atlanta, Georgia, two grandchildren – Michael (Loribeth) and Jessica Burton, and great granddaughter – Mia Faith Burton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 20, 2015 at the Covert Community Church with Pastor Beverly Smith officiating. Charles will be laid to rest in Covert Cemetery.
