Margaret's Obituary
Margaret Rose (Hagans) Torp, age 78, of South Haven, Michigan. Margaret departed this life peacefully at her home on November 18, 2015. Surviving are son Eric (Carol) Torp, daughter Elizabeth Verity, grandchildren Wednesday Verity, Kirsten Torp, and Jared Torp, brothers Jerry Hagans and Jim Hagans, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Bill Torp on November 7, her parents Rev. John Hagans and Marguerite Hagans, sister Nancy Dobbins, niece and dear friend Gail Hanson, and step mother Allegra (Porter Nielsen) Hagans.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. No one on earth has accomplished this as well as our mother Margaret.
Our mother’s life had many accomplishments, but her greatest achievement was her love. Margaret put her husband, family, and friends first always. She had a quiet spirit that didn't seek accolades for the service she so willingly and generously gave. As a matter of fact, she didn't want the recognition. Preferring to stay in the background, her demeanor was full of grace and gentleness. Everyone who met her liked her, and those she called friend adored her. Her legacy is one most wish to have. Margaret also was a fighter. She fought through debilitating disease for years to remain with her loving husband Bill. Once he died, she longed to be with him. Their love was what story books and fairy tales are filled with. Thankfully, in Christ, their story is not over but just beginning. A true princess reunited with her prince in her Father’s kingdom. While we mourn the huge loss we have suffered, we can rest assured that every tear was wiped from their eyes, and that they are dwelling in the house of the Lord forever. Heaven became sweeter and earth lost what we would call an angel. We will miss you both terribly until we are reunited again. Love never fails.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Virginia Heller officiating.
