Mary's Obituary

Mary Charlotte Reames, 70, of South Haven, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 16, 2016 at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation surrounded by her family. She was born April 17, 1945 to Clifford and Ella (Rourke) Porter in Langdon, North Dakota. Mary graduated from South Haven High School in 1963 and then attended Davenport College. She married Richard “Dick” Reames on September 27, 1969 at the First United Methodist Church in South Haven. She was a co-founder with Barb Adler of Youth and Company in South Haven, currently known as Youth Development Company, and was the former executive director of Camp Fire Boys and Girls until her retirement in the early 90’s. Mary worked with Camp Fire Boys and Girls for 25 years. Mary loved her cats and enjoyed spending time reading and traveling. Mary also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, shopping and playing cards.   She was a member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in South Haven.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her siblings – Jerry Porter and Susan Stegeman.

Mary is survived by her husband of 47 years – Dick Reames, and brother William (Barb) Porter; children – Christi (Jason) Assink of South Haven and Phillip (Gail) Reames of Kalamazoo; grandchildren – Luke (Nicole) Reames, Leah (Mike) Dotinga, and Jed (Theresa) Reames and Colin Assink; great grandchildren – Rico, Silas, Jacob, Sofia, and Micah; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on January 30, 2016 at 11:00am, at Hope Reformed Church in South Haven with Father Rick Turner officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, PO Box 261, South Haven, Michigan 49090 or the Al Van Humane Society, 73303 8th Avenue, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
