Edna's Obituary
Edna Rose Schlaack, 93, of South Haven, passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. She was born February 9, 1923 to Rev. Martin and Carolyn (Pfeiffer) Haase in South Haven. Edna graduated from South Haven High School in 1940. She married Marion “Bill” Schlaack on March 30, 1946 in South Haven. From 1955 to 1965, Edna owned and operated the Zephyr Root Beer Stand in South Haven. She was a licensed cosmetologist and had her own shop in her home. She also worked as an installment loan officer at Citizen’s Bank for 23 years before retiring in 1985. Edna was a skilled artist and would make porcelain dolls. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband – Bill Schlaack and siblings – Martha Schnake, Walter Haase, and Erdmann “Boots” Haase.
Edna is survived by her children – Susan (Robert) Brewer of Benton Harbor and Paul (Wanda) Schlaack, sister – Lois Curley of Hacienda Heights, California, four grandchildren – Paul (Ana) Schlaack Jr., Lindsay (Richie) Garcia, Megan (Marcello) Silvan, and Chas (Britteny) Schlaack. Five great grandchildren also survive.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven. Memorial services will follow visitation at 11:00 at the church with Pastor Stephen Daley officiating. Edna will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven. Contributions may be made in Edna’s memory to the St. Paul School or Michigan Lutheran High School.
