Irene's Obituary
Irene Phyllis Smith, 89, of South Haven, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born March 5, 1926 to James and Ella (Taylor) Howard in Waukegan, Illinois. Irene graduated from Pontiac Township High School in 1944. She retired from Scott Aviation in 1988 where she worked diligently for ten years. She also worked as a cashier at Murphies and Consumers Center.
She is preceded in death by three husbands – Howard Evans, Hunter Jackson, and Aaron Smith, son - Robert Howard, siblings – Jimmie and Harry Howard and Ruby Bernard, and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her children – Ruby Hartley of South Haven, Howard Evans of St. Paul, Minnesota, Lola Evans and Sharon Howard both of Kalamazoo, James Howard of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Marie Raziuddaen of Chicago, Illinois. Eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
Wake will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the First United Pentecostal Church in South Haven. Funeral services will follow wake at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Philip Haner officiating. Irene will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven.
