Jean's Obituary

Jean Carol Dykstra, 85, of South Haven, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Hanson Hospice Center in Lincoln Township. She was born in 1930 to John and Pauline (Winkel) Hansen in South Haven. Jean attended South Haven School and waitressed at Holly’s Restaurant before marrying Sherman Dykstra on July 11, 1952 in South Haven. Following the death of her husband, Jean worked as the Breakfast Hostess at the Hampton Inn. Jean enjoyed bowling, reading, and crossword puzzles.

She is preceded in death along with her husband by siblings – John Hansen, Ileen Muth, and Evelyn Schlipp.

Jean is survived by her children – Daniel (Deborah) of Monroe, Georgia, James (Maggie) of Paw Paw, David (Linda) of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Mark (Deborah) of Stevensville, and Tom (Sandi) Dykstra of Holland, and brother – Earl (Peggy) Hansen of South Haven. Eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven.  A Celebration of Life will begin at 3:00 PM during the visiting time.   Jean will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jean’s memory to the Hanson Hospice Center, 4382 Cleveland Avenue, Stevensville, Michigan 49127, another hospice of your choice or South Haven Fire Department, 90 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
