Vergie's Obituary

Mother Vergie Lee Berry peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born on June 4, 1937 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Deacon Fred and Mother Evelyn Williams. At the tender age of two Mother Berry’s parents relocated the family from Little Rock to Albion, Michigan. She moved to Covert, Michigan and married her “Sweetie” – the late Bishop L.C. Berry on January 24, 1960.
Mother Berry served faithfully as the First Lady of Lily of the Valley Church for 43 years. She served as the Church Organist, Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, Young Women’s Christian Council Counselor, Home & Foreign Mission President, and the Women’s Department President. Mother Berry was an anointed writer and she wrote the church midweek bible study lessons. She was an excellent seamstress and this was evidenced by the lovely dresses that her daughters wore.
Mother Berry cared for and ministered no only to the members at Lily of the Valley Church by to the people within the communities of Covert and South Haven. Although she held many hats at “The Lily”; her character was displayed within her home as well. She imparted wisdom into her children and grandchildren. She emulated the Proverbs 31:10 woman. Mother was a helpmate to her husband in every way that God designed her to be. She was a mother full of wisdom. She studied to be quiet and was full of hospitality. Although she was married to a great man, she was very accomplished in her own ministry. Mother counseled and prayed for many people. Because of her love, her character and her dedication to god, she birthed out many souls through her ministry. Mother Vergie Lee Berry – Your Family and Church Salute You!
Mother Berry was preceded in death by her husband, Bishop L.C. Berry; three brothers: Roosevelt Williams, Fred Williams, and Clarence Williams; two sisters: Vertie Lou Johnson and Elizabeth Joplin.
