Richard "Dick" Sandstrom

Richard's Obituary

Richard "Dick" Sandstrom 90, of South Haven, passed away Sunday April 9, 2017 at Grace of Douglas Nursing Home in Douglas , Michigan. He was born March 11, 1927 to Arthur and Gwendolyn (Ireland) Sandstrom in South Haven, Michigan. 

Dick honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy as a firemen aboard the USS Edgecomb during World War II. Upon his return, he worked briefly at Everett Piano before going into business with his grandfather as a bricklayer.  He was a lifelong member of Bricklayer and Allied Craftsman's local #17. 

He married Lucille Beatty in November 23, 1953 in St. Joseph, Michigan and shared 51 years of marriage with her before her passing in 2004.  Dick was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his friends at the American Legion Post # 49 and the VFW. He was also a member of St Basil Catholic Church. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Lucille.

Dick is survived by his daughters, Carol (Gene) Schaeffer of Frisco, TX and Jean Sandstrom of South Haven. Grandchildren, Conner and Colin Schaeffer, Brittany Schaeffer Meyers, Allison Zemanek and great grandchildren Max, Liam and Isabella
