Olga's Obituary

Olga Verna Lewis, 85, of South Haven, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Bronson Hospital in South Haven. She was born March 9, 1932 to William and Bertha Pristupa in Detroit, Michigan. Olga graduated from Yale High School with the Class of 1949. She continued her education at Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University. She taught for South Haven Public Schools for 38 years before retiring in 1997. Olga married Dale Lewis on June 23, 1956 in Ionia, Michigan. Olga enjoyed baking, sewing, crafts, gardening and playing golf. She was a member of the Garden Club, a volunteer and board member at the Liberty Hyde Bailey Museum and WeCare INC. She was a member of the Hope Reformed Church in South Haven.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her brother – William “Bill” Pristupa.

Olga is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dale Lewis of South Haven, children, four sons, Dennis, Jeff (Lita), and Bryan (Carol) of South Haven, and Ken (Nichole) Lewis of Grandville, Michigan, seven grandchildren – Jaime Lewis-Furgeson, Samantha, Benjamin, Timothy, Andrew, Katelyn, and Cameron Lewis, and one great grandson – J.D. Furgeson.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Hope Reformed Church in South Haven. Olga will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven. Contributions may be made in Olga’s memory to the Hope Reformed Church, 1365 Monroe Boulevard, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
