William's Obituary
William Walter Dawson, Jr., 78, of South Haven, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at his home surrounded by loving family. William worked for Canonie Construction, Wakenhut Construction, Palisades Nuclear Plant, South Haven Building Inspector, and Mechanic for Covert Public School.
He was born May 22, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, to William Walter Dawson Sr. and Julia Mae Pace.
He owned his own company, Dawson Construction, and Mechanic shop. He also loved going fishing, gambling with children, making his own home made wine, and he loved his dogs Snapper and Deddie.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Walter Dawson, Sr., his mother Julia, ex-wife Susie Dawson, brothers Oscar L. Woody, Earnest L. Woody, and great-granddaughter Jameiya Lowe.
William is survived by his children – William Dawson, III of Lansing, MIchigan, Cornelia Mae Dawson of Holland, Michelle Dawson of South Haven, Clarice Van Dawson (John) Stenske of Texas, eight grandchildren- Jason, Eeron, Cornelia, Clarisse, Jonni, Adrian, Samira, Keonna, ten great-grandchildren – DeMario, De’Martre, Talajah, Alayla, Lyric, Dana, Jak’yius, Wyatt, Rileigh, and Romeo, Siblings – David Woody of Covert, Catherine (Ed) Green of Covert, a host of family and friends, special friends – Allen Cochrane, Jeffery Rose, Eugene Bo Hannon, Dean Bo Hannon, Joshua Bryant, Paul Bryant and Bob Elliot.
A wake will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow visitation at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Bill Odebrecht officiating. William will be laid to rest at Covert Cemetery in Covert.
