Sandra Jean Shaffer

Sandra Jean Shaffer, 74, of South Haven, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017 unexpectedly at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born June 6, 1943 to George and Dorothy (Patterson) Auensen in South Haven. Sandra graduated from South Haven High School with the Class of 1961. She later attended Davenport College. Sandra married Richard Shaffer on July 27, 1963 and shared 54 years of marriage. She played canasta weekly and loved to travel. She was a member of the Sons of Norway Askeladden Lodge in Kalamazoo. She was very active with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sandra is survived by her husband – Richard Shaffer, children – Stacy (Larry) Niles of Lawrence, William Thad Shaffer of Portage, Debra (Ronald) Wall of Kalamazoo, siblings – Judy Quake of South Haven, Paul (Melissa) Auensen of Dunedin, Florida, and Richard (Terri) Auensen of South Haven, grandchildren – Ashli Niles, Christopher, Matthew, and Elizabeth Shaffer, and Cassandra and Katherine Wall, great grandchildren – Lyla Niles, and Brian, Landon, and Tanner Shaffer.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the South Haven Senior Center, 1635 76th Street, South Haven, Michigan 49090. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sandra's memory to the Al Van Humane Society, PO Box 421, South Haven, Michigan 49090 or the South Haven Memorial Library, 314 Broadway Street, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
